Coatbridge College recognises that its activities have an environmental impact and acknowledges its responsibility for the protection of the environment and for the health of the College population and local communities.The College is committed to:
- Complying with all appropriate environmental legislation.
- Promoting the protection of the environment and minimising the environmental damage caused by its activities locally, regionally and globally, both by direct action and through its influence with others.
- Implementing environmental policies and practices within the College.
- Increasing environmental awareness amongst students by, where possible, incorporating environmental issues in the curriculum.
- Conserving natural resources by minimising avoidable waste and pollution.
- Reducing litter, graffiti and noise pollution.
- Reducing the use of fossil fuels through improvements in energy efficiency.
- Avoiding the unnecessary use of materials hazardous to the environment and taking all reasonable steps to prevent damage where the use of such materials is essential.Developing effective waste management and recycling procedures.
- Using recycled and recyclable materials where appropriate.
- Encouraging throughout the college community, the use of public transport and promoting the use of less environmentally damaging vehicle fuels.
- Increasing environmental awareness amongst staff through staff development and training.
- Attaining a Very Good BREAAM rating on the College estate refurbishment programme.
