Claiming Benefits While You Study
Most full time students cannot claim benefit since they are no longer available to work. However, if you are disabled, a single parent or are not required to be actively seeking work, you will remain on your benefits while you study. It may also be possible to take a course under a Government funded education and training option (such as New Deal) while still claiming benefits. Ask for more details at your local jobcentre.

It may also be possible to study part time and continue to claim benefits so long as your part time course is less than 16 hours per week and you continue to be available for work.

Individual Learning Accounts (ILAs)
ILA Scotland could help you pay for the cost of your learning. If you are over 16 years old and living in Scotland, you may be eligible for up to £200 a year of ILA Scotland funding. If you are studying a part time HN course, you may be eligible for up to £500 a year of funding (ILA 500). To find out more, call the ILA Scotland helpline free on 0808 100 1090 or visit www.ilascotland.org.uk
