Coatbridge College Science Showcase Event | 24.01.12
Coatbridge College hosted Rainbows, Brownies and Girl Guides in its first Science Showcase event.
A group of girls who ranged from 5-14 years old were welcomed to the College by Deputy Principal Margaret Rose Livingstone, to complete the final part of their science badge.
An hour of exciting science activities were designed, developed and delivered by a variety of science students from the NC Applied Science, NQ Biomedical Science and the HNC Applied Science courses within the College’s state of the art laboratories with Science lecturing staff leading and monitoring the experiments.
Some of the experiments carried out by the girls included chromatography, acid & alkali volcanoes, finger-printing, fake blood and blood splatters. In addition to this, an ‘Egg Challenge’ competition took place where teams of Rainbows, Brownies and Guides worked together to design a vehicle to protect the ‘Egstronaut’ when he falls from a great height. The winning team was presented with Challenge certificates to represent their success.
Science Curriculum Leader at Coatbridge College, Anne Marie McInally said:
‘The Science Showcase event has given the girls a great College experience and has provided them with the opportunity to work in a real science laboratory and carry out exciting science experiments all as part of their science badge.’
