Coatbridge College National Success | 14.05.10

An image of Coatbridge College students  at the national finals of the Annual Hair and Beauty Awards Staff and students at Coatbridge College are delighted as they celebrate their success at the national finals of the Annual Hair and Beauty Awards for the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT).

Coatbridge College Hairdressing and Make-up Artistry students were awarded a total of five medals in the national competition, including two gold medals, two silver medals and a bronze, as well as two fourth places (details included below). Colleges from across the UK and Wales all travelled to Blackpool to take part in the annually celebrated event. Competition was fierce in the different competition categories which ranged from Catwalk to the Total Look Team Event.

Coatbridge College were off to a great start when they dominated the Scottish heats of the AHT Competition last month, winning the Rose Bowl Trophy for Best College in Scotland, as well as 14 medals across various competition categories. The Total Look Team Event was dominated by Coatbridge when teams from the College were placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd - a category the College has been consistent in for several years, with them also taking Gold in this year’s national finals.


Among the winners at the national finals was Leigh Butler, who has been the Gold medal winner in the Prosthetic Make-up category (photograph included) for the past two years, and is currently undertaking his HND Make-up Artistry at the College. Sarah Vieira Da Cruz, another HND student, has also had great success during her time at the College - this year being part of the Gold award winning team in the Total Look category, as well as being awarded Silver in the Ageing Make-up category .

Roslyn Darling, Curriculum Leader for Hairdressing and Make-up Artistry at Coatbridge College, said:
‘All of the students involved contributed a huge amount of time and effort in advance of the competition and produced great results on the day - we’re all very proud of their achievements. This experience has greatly improved their self confidence and developed their passion to achieve the highest standards possible’.
