Enterprising Coatbridge College Student Recognised at Awards | 11.09.09
Former Coatbridge College student, Laura Barkhouse, was awarded an Enterprising Student Award by the Scottish Further Education Unit (SFEU).
The new award is designed to recognise students throughout Scotland who have completed their studies at College and gone on to start up their own business. In collaboration with the Federation of Small Businesses Scotland the awards present a great opportunity to recognise the considerable talent coming through the College system.
Laura attended Coatbridge College as an HND Beauty Therapy student and was even selected as one of the ‘faces’ of the College’s advertising campaign this year.
Laura currently runs her own Beauty Therapy business in Falkirk and said: ‘When I decided that I was interested in Beauty Therapy, previous students recommended I come to Coatbridge College. I really enjoyed it because the courses were really varied and the lecturers were so positive and gave me guidance when I needed it.
I now run my own business called ‘Beauty Within by Laura’ which I opened over a year ago and it’s going really well – I love it! To be acknowledged by such a prestigious award is amazing.’
John Doyle, Principal of Coatbridge College, said:
‘These awards highlight the importance of the relationship between business and education. Laura is the epitome of someone who has worked hard to fulfil her ambitions and we are really proud of her achievements.’
