In June last year, Coatbridge College’s Nursery was awarded the coveted Eco Flag by international initiative ‘Eco Schools’, to acknowledge their efforts in raising children’s awareness of the environment and engaging in ‘green’ activities. Now, with funding from Sunnyside Community Council, Friends of Dunbeth Park and the Links Group in Coatbridge, the Nursery can display their flag with pride.

Susan Flannigan, Chair of Sunnyside Community Council and President of Friends of Dunbeth Park, said:
‘The Eco and Healthy Lifestyles projects the Coatbridge College Nursery has been involved in are fantastic and we were happy to be able to support their efforts. Having managed a Nursery for 10 years myself, I have a huge appreciation for the invaluable work they do.

All the groups involved with this funding are part of the Coatbridge Community Forum which brings everyone in the community together for the wider benefit. It has been great to work with the College since it has such an impact on the local area.’

Janice McKay, Nursery Manager, said:
‘We are delighted with the support we’ve had from the community groups in Coatbridge.

Our Eco Flag award is the culmination of three years work and dedication by the staff and the children here at the Nursery. We have all made sure that environmental awareness is an intrinsic part of life at our Nursery for the children, staff and parents. The Green Flag shows that the Nursery is committed to the highest standards in environmental education and management – and now we can display our flag for everyone to see!’
