We have excellent training accommodation consisting of a state of the art make-up studio and spacious hairdressing salons providing a wide range of services which are booked through our Hairdressing Reception.

Our portfolio offers a broad range of courses to suit the needs of all students, whether you are just starting out or you have previous experience and want to develop yourself further. We have a highly motivated team of lecturers who will support and inspire you to develop the skills you require to become a confident and successful learner.

The Hairdressing and Make-up Artistry section has a highly regarded reputation due to our outstanding level of student success in regional and national competitions. At the Scottish heats of the WorldSkills UK competitions one of our HND Make-up students won gold in Advanced Media Make-up and one of our hairdressing students won gold in Advanced Hairdressing and then progressed on to achieve a Highly Commended Award at the National finals in London. Our students also won a total of 18 medals and the trophy for the Best College in Scotland at the AHT Competitions.

An image of Sarah, HND Make-Up Artistry at Coatbridge College I’ve always been very artistic so the HND Make-up Artistry was perfect for me to be creative.

This course is great because it gives you the freedom to do that, as well as learning new skills too. For instance, during my course I was introduced to body painting, something I’ve never done before and since leaving College have used this part of my portfolio to become part of the body painting team for Mac cosmetics.

I currently work for Mac which is opening up so many doors for me and further learning opportunities. I also work as a freelance make-up artist, for which my College skills are invaluable.

I love everything about make-up and being creative with it – Coatbridge College gave me the chance to do just that. I also had the opportunity to showcase my work in national competitions, winning several gold and silver medals in the AHT and WorldSkills competitions.

Success Stories

I love my course – my skills are starting to develop and I feel like a hairdresser now. Long hair and session styling are definitely my thing!

I have great relationships with my lecturers – they’re really inspiring. It takes someone to believe in you when you don’t have the confidence to start with.

Winning the Hairdressing category of WorldSkills Scotland and being awarded a Highly Commended at the WorldSkills UK competition this year really increased my confidence and I’ve now been selected to be part of L’Oreal’s Evolution Team!
