Medical/First Aid

A First Aid room allows us to treat minor ailments/illnesses, injuries, acute/chronic illness, carry out routine dressings, injections, monitor blood pressure, weight, etc and offer health advice. In the absence of the College nurse, there is a team of First Aiders who will treat injuries/accidents.

The First Aid room is provided in the College where the College Nurse Betty Jamieson (RCN) or a trained First Aider is in attendance. Telephone 01236 422316 or ext 2350.

First Aiders will be available at Duart House, Bellshill and at Glenboig.

A list of current First Aiders and locations of first aid boxes are displayed on College noticeboards. First Aiders and the nurse can be contacted on 01236 422316 or ext 2350, or by approaching a member of staff.

Meningitis

Meningitis is more common in young/teenage years. Therefore if you have not yet had your Men C vaccine it would be advisable to consult your GP or practice nurse.

Also make yourself aware of the signs and symptoms of this disease by picking up a leaflet at the medical room.

Sexual Health

STD’s are increasing at an alarming rate and the only way to prevent their spread if you are sexually active is to use condoms. If you have any concerns about your own sexual health pick up a leaflet or contact Betty on 01236 422316 or ext 2350, who has phone numbers for local GUM clinics.

Infectious Disease

If you contract any infectious disease throughout the year you will be required to stay away from the College for the appropriate period of infection.

Health Promotion Events

There are various health promotion events throughout the year which offer advice and literature on specific health issues. Any suggestions/ideas from students on appropriate subjects will be welcome.

Mental Health

We are committee to the promotion of the positive mental wellbeing of our students. We will provide a supportive, trustworthy and well informed environment which compliments students’ value and respect, and promotes mental wellbeing.
