At Coatbridge College we have an award winning approach to ESOL which ensures our students have every opportunity to improve their English language skills and to gain recognised qualifications.
The Scottish Qualifications Authority has a range of National Qualifications in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). There are ESOL Units at five levels from complete beginner (Access 2) to advanced (Higher). The ESOL courses at the more advanced levels (Intermediate 2 and Higher) have exams.
What does it involve?
Each unit and course includes speaking, listening, reading and writing and will help you:- gain an English language qualification at a level suitable for you
- prepare for study and assessment in other subjects
- progress into work
- learn English using practical tasks
- progress to College or University
- with everyday life if you wish to settle in the UK or any English speaking country
There are final exams for learners at the advanced levels SCQF 5 and SCQF 6.
What do I need to start?
You will be profiled on entry to find the most appropriate level of study. Those students who have already achieved an SCQF Level can progress to the following Level.
What can I do afterwards?
Success at any of the SCQF Levels will allow you to progress to the more advanced qualifications and it may even be possible to enter mainstream courses at the College. Achieving recognised qualifications will also improve your employment prospects.
