Attendance and Absence

In order for you to make the most of your time in College regular, punctual attendance is essential. If you are unavoidably absent, please inform your Senior Lecturer. Under normal circumstances, after four weeks continuous absence (without notification) it will be assumed that you have withdrawn from your course.

Please do not simply stop coming to College, whatever the reason. Speak to your Senior Lecturer or to the Student Services Team who are there to support you. If you want to talk in confidence with someone outside your Programme of Study please contact Student Services.

Necessary short term absences can be explained by a sick note (as appropriate) if they are unexpected, but your Senior Lecturer should be informed, in advance, if you know you will be absent from a session.

If you are ill and this lasts for more than a week or you are missing a major assessment/examination, you must provide a medical certificate from your doctor and send this to your Senior Lecturer. Keep him/her informed of your continued absence in order to protect your enrolment and to make arrangements for work to be sent to you, if this is appropriate.

All classes must be attended regularly and promptly. A poor attendance record can affect your entitlement to grants or even prevent you sitting examinations. 85% attendance is currently required to be entered for examinations.
