Student Induction
The induction process helps you to get to know the type of work you will undertake in your new course.Student Services Team
We have a comprehensive student support service. The Student Services Team can assist with a wide range of issues from student finance to personal problems. All interviews with the team are impartial and confidential.Student Funding Team
All students and prospective students can obtain financial information and advice from the Student Funding Team located within Student Services.Guidance and Additional Support
During your time at College you will be given guidance in a variety of different ways at different stages during your course. Help with exploring the range of course opportunities at Coatbridge College is always available (including progression from your course to Higher Education).You will also be introduced to a guidance tutor who will meet with you regularly to discuss your progress.
Core Skills
Every student that leaves Coatbridge College to start a new job or to join a course at University has something in common – they have all worked hard to develop their Core Skills.Counselling
The Counselling service is available whatever your issues. It may be work, money, family relationships, health or you may just need a sympathetic ear.Careers Advice
Throughout your time at College you will have access to practical careers advice to help you decide where you want to be and how best to achieve your career goals.Skills Development Scotland has a base in the College within Student Services on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday each week from 10am to 4pm. They operate a drop-in facility – go directly to Student Services or make an appointment by telephoning 0845 502502. Alternatively you can visit the Skills Development Scotland North Lanarkshire Centre at 61 Stirling Street, Airdrie. This Centre also operates a drop-in facility and is open to the public Monday and Thursday 10am - 4pm.
Skills Development Scotland offer a wide range of career planning services including practical advice and information to support you in making the right career choices. They provide information on a variety of careers across a wide range of industry sectors. They can also support you in developing your job search skills, applying for jobs and provide advice on using the internet to research job opportunities.
Applying to University (UCAS)
UCAS Scotland gives you advice and guidance to choose a University that is right for you, as well as helping you to prepare for any extra requirements you might have.Applications to university for entry in September 2012 must be made online to UCAS by 15th December, 2011. You can pick up your UCAS Application Toolkit from Student Services from the start of October. Application workshops will be held by Student Services – see notice boards, plasma screens, student intranet and your student email for further information.
