Student Support / Horizon
At Coatbridge College we are committed to supporting all of our students as they strive to achieve their individual potential. The building is fully accessible with a wide range of resources and assistive technologies to support students with disabilities and we make sure that all reasonable adjustments are made to promote inclusiveness. We will do everything we can to provide the support you need.
We have specialist equipment and software in the Horizon Centre and the computers can be used at any time between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
If you have an additional support needs or feel that you would like some help and advice with your course, we would like to hear from you.
Learner Support is available to students who have:
- Specific Learning Difficulties (e.g. Dyslexia or Dyspraxia)
- Mobility or Dexterity Issues
- A Hearing Impairment
- A Visual Impairment
- Health or Medical Conditions
- Mental Health Issues
- Autistic Spectrum Disorders
- Social, Emotional or Behavioural Issues
- Any other issues that may affect your learning.
Support can include:
- Course material in alternative formats/coloured overlays
- Referral to the Adult Literacy and Numeracy Workers
- Alternative assessments arrangements such as extra time, the use of a reader/scribe or ICT and adapted exam papers
- Equipment loan, where appropriate, such as adapted keyboards and mice, digital recorders, spell checkers and laptops
- Access to, and training in, assistive software
- One to one or group support
- Dyslexia workshops
- Study skills support such as essay planning, report writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Note takers
- Interpreters
- Dyslexia screening
