Equality Impact Assessment

An Equality Impact Assessment is the process by which organisations examine their activities in order to minimise the potential of discrimination. It is a way of making sure that services are improved so that everyone can benefit, regardless of their race, sex or disability.

Coatbridge College continually makes service improvements to ensure equality and the prevention of discrimination. Some examples of the work we have done to reduce any negative impact and promote equality include the redesign of our website, which is now fully accessible, and has been awarded an AAA rating. Another example is with regard to curriculum choice – having monitored student admission data, we developed taster courses for curriculum areas which were dominated by one gender, such as Childcare.

Our Equality Schemes emphasise the important of Equality Impact Assessment, and we are committed to systematically embedding these assessments in all of our activities.

Equality Impact Assessment Process

We have now published draft assessments of our core policies and procedures (see above).

We would now like to consult with our staff, students and partners about the results of these assessments and our proposed action points.

We would be grateful if you could consider these assessments and tell us:
  • What else can Coatbridge College do to ensure that everyone is treated fairly?
  • Can you think of other ways in which Coatbridge College can promote equality of opportunity?

Please contact equalitydiversity@coatbridge.ac.uk with your views.
